Two Oceans Aquarium

holiday apartment cape town
Cape Town, on the southern tip of Africa, is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet. It’s therefore natural that the city’s Two Oceans Aquarium would showcase the incredible diversity of marine life found in these two oceans. Your holiday apartment could not be better located to take advantage of this.

The Two Oceans Aquarium, located on the V&A Waterfront, is one of the top tourist attractions in Cape Town. It houses over 3,000 living sea animals, including sharks, fishes, turtles and penguins and shows them in spectacular displays of underwater nature reserves. It’s certainly a hit among the guests in our holiday apartment.

The Aquarium is built around two huge tanks and many smaller ones. The massive tanks are over two stories high, one with a kelp forest and fish, and the ’predator exhibit’ with sharks, large fish, rays, and sea turtles. The kelp tank must be over 30 feet deep, with all kinds of creatures navigating its leaves. The shark tank has a half-tunnel viewing platform surrounding it where you can really get close to these predators, especially the scary-looking ‘ragged-toothed’ shark.

Another fun activity for visitors from holiday apartments and hotels (as well as local residents of course) to do is to watch ‘feeding time’ for penguins and fish. It’s so much fun to see how they all dash madly around trying to gulp the most food. Most impressive, of course, is the mesmerizing weekly hand-feeding of the ragged-toothed sharks on Sundays at 15:30.

In short, you’ll find yourself spending 2-3 fascinating hours at the Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town without the slightest notion of how quickly time flies by when you are enjoying yourself.
